about us

Mareterra is an activity that aims to promote the Sicilian territory through its environmental beauties and traditions handed down and usable by all of us.

Our history

Mare Terra Natura e Turismo was born from the passion of two biologists for the environment and the Sicilian territory. It is an activity that aims to promote and enhance the environmental heritage, traditions, local specialties and the culture of this magnificent land. Our mission is to promote a more conscious use of the environment and its protection for future generations.

Mare Terra Natura e Turismo offers hiking activities in Nature Reserves, Marine Protected Areas and areas of natural interest through trekking, boat tours, snorkeling, horseback ridings, mountain bike trails and activities in nature, showing the typical Mediterranean ecosystems.

We believe it is possible to live this territory using the present natural heritage in a sustainable way, also taking care of the information and protection aspects. For this reason we also organize environmental laboratories with schools that allow to deepen and pass on acquired academic knowledge, thus sensitizing the new generations to a conscious and sustainable use of the environment that surrounds them and to maintain a link with its traditions.

Mauro Castellini

Marine biologist

I was born in Palermo on July 4, 1978, where I still live after working around the world as a deck officer on merchant ships.

In 2005 I enrolled in Marine Biology at the university and in 2010 I graduated and then I later specialized in Marine Ecology in 2013.

Since 2008, I have been involved in environmental monitoring through probes for environmental analysis in the chemical and physical variables and by using acoustic instruments and satellite remote sensing data that I use to make thematic maps using GIS platforms.

In 2014 I participated in a project promoted by the University of Palermo for the recovery of marine environments in degraded areas with the aim of replanting a Posidonia oceanica prairie through an experimental implantation support.

To date, I deal mainly with the dissemination and promotion of the territory and its traditions, trying to convey the need for conservation of the environment to future generations, exploiting as much as possible my skills and competences.
